To 9 km. from Altamura, in the middle of the plateau Murge, opens what appears to be a deep chasm.
The correct name is Pulo, real dolina of karstic-type bowl, created for the channeling of rainwater at this point.
This has created a vacuum of more or less circle whose diameter is about 500 m. with a maximum depth of 75 meters. Along the walls, in places very steep, they create caves and gorges that indicate the different levels of excavation of the water.
These caves are a real archaeological heritage because they were inhabited from the age of most ancient prehistory.
At the base there is a inghiottitoio, the Grotta del Pulo, 30 meters deep, open only by cavers.
The hypogean karst, underground, is at home here in the territory of Altamura.
